Advanced Drawing Portfolio

Artist Statement:

Throughout my work I generally have an underlying theme, something that interests me and has pulled me to it as much as I have created it. My current body of work is centered in vision and the idea of viewing. I started by looking at works of art for inspiration for my own portfolio, the conclusion was that what I viewed had little impact, but the act of viewing the pieces intrigued me.

Having been to many exhibitions, from the famous gallery of the Louvre in Paris, to the humble presentations of work in beginning drawing classes. The one thing every single exhibition had in common was the viewer. Though the viewer could be any person, it is always someone spending a moment to observe the artists work. I began working on pieces that would take some interpretation or involve the viewer in the piece. I did not want to create works that would be skipped over or quickly walked by, but something that requires some thought and compels the imagination.

My work requires that extra moment to consider it and connect the work with the title; not every piece needs an explanation, but should leave some impression on the individual. Each viewer may perceive a different meaning, or, depending on the piece and how many people are viewing it, could change the actual image.
